If you find yourself captured by the protagonist’s or
client’s story and there are no directions, movement, and verbal interjections
coming from you, you are being a vicarious protagonist, not a
director/therapist. Psychodrama or other therapy sessions are not television
reality shows; your focus must be on the process(es) of the protagonist without
losing yourself. If you lose yourself in another’s issue, it’s time for you to
work on that.
